It’s several years in the future and Aquaman’s Atlantis now lies at the surface of the oceans. Aquaman has a son and all seem well until rogue Atlanteans attack the king and all is lost. Is this the future of Aquaman?
There is a thing about comics where a good idea is reused countless times. A green and a yellow lantern gives way to a rainbow of lanterns. The speed force gives lieu to the still force, the strength, and the sagacious forces. Now the black mercy flower that gave Superman one of the most memorable story ever has been reused for an Aquaman story. It only took about 30 years, but it happened. Aren’t there any original ideas worth developing for comics?
Having written this, there is not much that I need to say as this story has been written in a much better way for Superman by Alan Moore no less. Max Fiumara is an eclectic artist. It’s really take it or leave it with him. I dislike his Aquaboy but like the oddness of much of his work. He makes characters ugly and deformed but on purpose, not because he cannot draw. It gives them a form of expression and in some ways it is suitable for this story. I just don’t like his Aquaboy.
