Russel Crowe is Ben Wade, a notorious and deadly outlaw in the wild west towns of Arizona. Ben Wade is a wanted man, and all attempts to bring him to justice have failed.
Christian Bale plays Dan Evans, a cattle rancher who always ends up in bad situations. Evans is a civil war veteran who is trying to feed his family on their poor ranch. Ben Wade and Dan Evans cross paths and the adventure ensues.
Bale gives us yet another highly believable performance, this time as Dan Evans. Evans haunted by his past and failure as an honest man and father decides to join up with the local law and escort Ben Wade to Yuma, awaiting a train that is headed for prison. The highly clever and devious Ben Wade has other plans and only Dan Evans stands between him and his freedom. The gunfights in this movie are very entertaining. There was one mistake some people may not catch in the opening shootout of the film, it relates to the two men operating a heavy piece of machinery. Apparently someone didn't die. I hate to see a good movie with bad video editors.
Growing up with very few modern westerns I feel a breath of fresh air when watching this dazzling movie. It reminds me of the old westerns with Clint Eastwood; those are now classics. 3:10 to Yuma delivers story, drama, action, and satisfaction when it ends. Christian Bale is the type of guy who you want to be the hero, and he steps up to the plate in this film. There are no misfit characters here, and no flashy teenage kids in starring roles, just a couple of veteran seasoned actors who deliver awesome performances. This movie is very highly recommended to those seeking a truly gripping story with some wild west action!
