The Sisterhood has decided the fate of Atlantis and why it must save Mera. Will Arthur accept his and Mera’s fate before she drowns underwater?

Dan Abnett has used and reused many old Aquaman plots and elements in his run, but he has introduced a new idea that I really like. Mera should be the queen of Atlantis but not as Aquaman’s consort but the rightful queen. Making Mera drown underwater is an old plot point from Kurt Busiek’s run so it’s annoying to see this being reused here. Yet, I like how instead of depowering Mera completely, Abnett is adding to her and making her a remarkable character. I agree with the Sisterhood. She would make a better monarch.

Abnett missed an opportunity to explore patriarchy and matriarchy in Atlantis. I supposed it was a no brainer as Queen Atlannna was already queen of Atlantis once. I like the various hints about Dolphin being jealous of Aquaman’s affection for Mera. Perhaps this is a subplot worth exploring in the future.

Riccardo Federici is an excellent illustrator and storyteller. His sense of realism, even under the seas elevates Aquaman and will make this run memorable. My only complaint is the lack of scales on Aquaman’s suit!
