When someone you love is threatened, would you go against all your principles to save their life? Well that’s the question Dick Grayson has to ask himself. Donning the Nightwing mantle now means going international and maybe going against the concept of justice Batman once instilled in him……….and more!

At first I did wonder where this was all going, as the issue seems to start with a random sequence that doesn’t really seem to flow. Then we jump to a different location, this time with Nightwing, but the dialogue seemed a bit goofy in places. All it took though was a comment Nightwing makes to Representative Manfredi to spin everything around and really ramp things up. The book then really shows its depth and Seeley moves things round like a chess player, layering intrigue upon intrigue. I have never read a Nightwing book before, but I didn’t feel lost, as things weren’t bogged down with past references. However, you do get the sense that longtime fans will get a fulfilling experience with the way things unfold.

Javier Fernandez and Chris Sotomayor really bring this book to life. The colours and tone help give the reader a sense of suspense and duplicity for those darker moments in the book. You could also say that shadows are used as a great supporting character as well. Femandez has some really nice line work, with how he depicts movement and posture. There are some great facial expressions as well, though there is a couple that do seem a bit clunky. But this is just a minor quibble to be honest.

It might have had an odd start, but all in all, this is a great time to start your journey with Nightwing!

Koncise an out :)
