ULTIMATE X-MEN #85

“Sentinels” Part 2 of 5

The particular incident on the cover of Ultimate X-Men #85 doesn’t happen.  Of course, Wolverine and the X-Men actually battle the new model Sentinels (smaller, more compact, but faster and with a larger arsenal), but during the fierce battle, fishnet Storm doesn’t ever stretch out on the rubble as if she’s posing for a photo shoot.

So anyway, Bishop’s reformed X-Men join the Mutant Liberation Front to battle the Sentinels, but Bishop isn’t buying MLF leader, Stryfe, whom he considers a terrorist.  Meanwhile, the villains behind the new Sentinels, the chic Fenris Twins, make their move to destroy the X-Men.  Back at Xavier’s, Jean Grey is having mental issues.

THE LOWDOWN:  Sometimes, the first issue of a comic or first issue of a storyline reads so well that it’s like a revelation that a superhero comic book could be so good, but a less stellar second issue leaves the reader to ponder what he saw in the first.  That’s not the case here.  Part 2 of “Sentinels” lives up to my estimation of the first installment.

Also, I’m still digging these cool, eye candy X-Men, with their ultra trendy gear and clothes.  There’s Sean John Wolverine, Frederick’s of Hollywood Storm with her fishnet, FUBU Dazzler with baggy pants and stringy drawz, and Old Navy Angel looking so hot.  The only thing I hate is waiting three or four months to finish this storyline.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Something about the individual talents that make up this writer, penciller, inker, and colorist team works so well to create a single, unified vision that translates into a highly entertaining comic book.  So people who want a superb, double-bang-for-the-buck X-Men comic… here, it is!
