ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #63 - CARNAGE

The origin of Ultimate Carnage is a horror wrought by Dr. Curtis Connors. And Spider-Man may be helpless to stop it!

After the shocking ending from last issue, the big question was (other than, why Bendis, why? lol), how will the ramifications affect Peter? Well, Bendis puts together a well scripted story, which touches on all the aspects of grief in this sort of situation. The strange thing though, the dialogue is on point, but the emotional attachment seems to be missing. However, there's a really good moment when Peter's trying to work out who could have killed Gwen. And we're also hit with not only a great ending, but a good build up as well.

Bagley does a really good job this issue in telling the story along with Bendis. At the very beginning we get happy confident Peter and the switch is perfectly timed. There's also a great panel (bottom right of the page) when Peter gets into his house and looks up from his Spider-man uniform (outfit, whatever). And when Peter and MJ talk in his room (well, room at her house), it's a perfect powerful moment and there are many of these throughout. The end splash page looks fantastic and leaves you wanting the next issue. The cover is one of the best Ultimate Spider-man covers, really poignant.
