Butch and Petey are two aging, obese truckers. They are so deep in the denial of their homosexuality that they eventually burst into a raw and carnal affair between the two trucking partners that utterly satisfies their sexual longings. However, in succumbing to their long-repressed lust for each other, they also unleash their self-hatred, so they crisscross the USA in a battered eighteen-wheeler gay bashing and murdering other homosexuals.

Originally serialized in the magazine, Exotic, TRUCKER FAGS IN DENIAL collects the first feature-length comic by writer Jim Goad. I won’t allow any American to call himself well-read until he reads Goad’s fabulous novel, The Redneck Manifesto.

Trucker Fags is filled with rough sex and hilarious cartoon violence (see “The Simpsons’” “Itchy and Scratchy”). The best thing about the book, however, is that it unapologetically skewers the homosexual repression and denial in American culture and society, and I don’t mean “pop culture.” Don’t act like you don’t know… A-
