The inter-stellar war reaches a climax in this issue but the battle doesn't really end. Like all of the recent mini-series, this is part of the build-up to the INFINITE CRISIS so those expecting closure will be disappointed. All these inconclusive "final" issues frankly leave a bad taste in the mouth, as if RANN-THANAGAR..., DAY OF VENGEANCE, etc. were just so much filler we all could have skipped over. Still, in this issue, we do get to see Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Adam Strange, Captain Comet and Tigorr take on the big baddie in a final confrontation that truly conveys a sense of the heroism of these long-ignored characters. However Green Lanterns Kilowogg and Kyle Rayner are relegated to the sidelines, an odd development considering they are the most powerful heroes in the book. The art in this issue is still quite good although not up to the standards of previous issues. The art team certainly deserves praise for capturing the huge diversity of characters, alien races, space ships in such a limited space. The last issue of this miniseries however should have had more punch, especially considering that cartoon-favourite, Shayera Hol (a.k.a. Hawkwoman), was killed off in the previous issue.
