“This is the
most ambitious project that I’ve taken on from Fan-Atic Press and I think it
shows in the quality of the book. I’d always dreamed of putting out Slam Bang
in a format that could really show it off and finally I think I’ve done
that.”--proclaims editor and publisher Allen Freeman.
“Its
exciting seeing the enthusiastic favorable reaction I’m getting at the
conventions! Everyone loves it and wants to be in the second issue!”
----explains Fan-Atic Press CEO Allen Freeman
Slam Bang
was created by artist/designer Allen Freeman in 1985 to help artists show off
their comic book work. From 1985 till 1990 he put out 33 issues of the digest
small press comic winning many awards in the fan press and newsletters of that
period. After working in commercial art and the gaming industry as well as for
other comic companies, Allen brought back Fan-Atic Press and Slam Bang in 2003
and has produced 7 more issues of the digest, many with color covers.
Now in 2006
Allen has taken his small press company and opened it up to a broader audience
with full color comics, and now this square bound graphic novel format for Slam
Bang.
Recently on
May 13th, 2006, Fan-Atic Press won a nominee award in the Day Prize
at the SPACE CON in Columbus, OH. (Small Press and Alternative Comic Expo.) It
was in Slam Bang #7 vol II from 2005, and the story nominated was “Justin’s
Last Chance” by Anton Bogaty.
