Artists Ashley Wood (Metal Gear Solid) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night) team with writers Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Tara) and Christina Z (Witchblade) to craft two stories in each issue of Shadowplay. In “Demon Father John’s Pinwheel Blues, Part 1,” Amber and Ben tell the story of a syndicate of vampire street children that is turned upside down by new recruit Pinwheel. In “Shunt, Part 1,” Christina Z and Ash present the tale of the perfect woman, who gives up the perfect life to uncover a heinous human slavery ring run by an elite group of vampires who transform their beautiful victims into the most sensually marketable product. Within the torture and depravity lies a twisted tale of obsessive passion and furious loyalty.
When asked about the meaning of “Shadowplay,” Christina Z replied that, “it's in the mind that shadows create an ignition for filling in the blanks of what we can't see. It's that which is the scariest to our own psyche and physical being! Once you can SEE what desires to destroy, well, that's not entirely so frightening. But, when you make yourself an additional foe, THAT'S when the fear really begins.”
Shadowplay, a full-color, four-part, split-book, will debut with issue #1 in September, Every issue will feature two covers, one each from Templesmith and Wood.
