Its pirates may be hunting for a single lucky piece, but the manga series "One Piece" marks a record 200 million copies Thursday, publisher Shueisha Inc. said.

The series, which has spawned an anime TV series and several movies, is about a pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, who continually searches for the world's greatest treasure called One Piece.

The 60th volume of the manga by Eiichiro Oda goes on sale Thursday with an initial press run of 3.4 million copies, also a record.

The previous record was the 59th volume of "One Piece," which had an initial printing of 3.2 million copies. "One Piece" has been carried in the Shonen Jump weekly manga magazine since 1997.
