In Mid 2005, I started a new video game section at ComicBookBin to feature gaming news. But not being a gamer myself, I could offer little review material. The other writers at the time also seemed uninterested in this new section on the site. So safe for a few news articles nothing happened to the video game section at ComicBookBin until Jonathan Mills approached me in January 2006 and made a pitch to own the section.

Jonathan’s participation was a breath of fresh air. No longer would we just cover news that every one covered. We could actually review new games and offer totally opinionated material to readers. Jonathan was of course a video game expert and fan, the same way many of us were comic book freaks. Jonathan was also interested in comics, so he also covered them. Between January 2006 and November 2007, Jonathan covered video games @ComicBookBin and slowly helped their establishment.

Jonathan left after that to try his hand at publishing his own video game Web magazine but it didn’t really work out for him. Many aspiring comic book pundits and bloggers ignore and underestimate the amount of work and stamina involved in publishing a magazine even online. It’s not an easy endeavour and without full backing of a team, it’s not something most can aspire too. In 2005 and 2006, there were a lot of small Comics zine popping out all over the place. Most of them have folded today while ComicBookBin continues to roll on. It’s not easy, but if you want your voice to be heard, it’s often much better to hook up with an established magazine like ComicBookBin that offers you all the freedom to create your niche coverage and mini–site without having to worry about issues such architecture, audience, design, media access and putting out a news article every single day.
