Investigating a sudden outburst of strange, mutated wild animals in Africa, the X-Men - led by Storm -- come face to face with something worse: mutant bio-organisms the likes of which the world has never seen. The key to unraveling their secret - and defeating them - may lie in that region's protector - the Black Panther.

After the shaky start to this crossover, this was definitely the proverbial shot in the arm that was needed. Where in part one (X-Men #175) the characterisation seemed to be more akin to St Trinian’s, here, Hudlin really gave life to each X-Men. The little things are done well too, Panther perplexed about the X-team that turns up makes sense. All in all, the story is just more compelling and consistent this time around.

There are several things about Yardin’s art that I really like. His character work is really clear, he draws a great Wolverine (short an grizzled). And he gives the characters a more grown look. You can see they’ve been through things in their lives. The only two downsides of the issue were minor. A few times some panels seemed rather dark and Ice Man’s ice sometimes drowned him out, but that’s it.
