Colossus goes undercover to find what a group of Russian mobsters are smuggling, only to find a container full of Russian women who claim to be former mutants. Elsewhere former mutants are now seeking asylum with the X-Men. Beast and Angel are fighting giant crabs. Let’s hope they changed their underwear before flying off to this crazy clone of the island of Doctor Moreau.

Fraction really let me down this issue. Of all the projects he’s involved with at Marvel Comics, this is the weakest. First, I have no idea who the guy in the fedora and the other guy with the technical wizardry is. Is it Madison Jeffries? The fake island of Doctor Moreau and the giant lizard remind me of Fing Fang Foom and the Monster Island creatures. I’m not sure how original Fraction is this issue. I thought this series would be entertaining, but I was bored instead.

Dodson creates beautiful people. He’s like a modern Adam Hughes, but with more angular designs. He does a great job in this issue, but even his sugar-coated illustrations can’t coat a weak story.
