The formula is tried and true and we’ve definitely seen it before. Somehow, there are always more Kryptonians coming out of the woodwork. Supergirl’s father drives a hard bargain, seeking to make good on his threat. Steve Orlando’s script is trite, with a rather maudlin conclusion. It capitalizes on the promise of a premium tale featuring an iconic title character and instead leaves the reader cold. There’s nothing exceptional about this paint-by-numbers issue. Dialogue is flat, the premise is tired. Brian Ching’s artwork, admittedly growing on me, offers a lot of visual variety via dynamic camera angles, evocative character expressions and fun action. The color palette is diverse, and every page flows gracefully into the next.
If you are a die-hard Supergirl completist, you’ll be picking up this issue. If you can live without it, that might just be a super idea.
