Velma and Shaggy, sitting in a tree – along with Daphne, hiding out from a horde of monsters on the ground below. With nothing but time on their hands, we are treated to a brief flashback sequence offering Daphne’s backstory. Meanwhile, some distance away, Fred and Daisy are worrying for the safety of their friends, and we are treated to Fred’s version of his relationship with Daphne. They’re really not so different, just both tend to leave out facts they’d rather ignore. But of course it’s only a matter of time before the creatures below take notice of the heroes hanging out in the trees above.

It’s a noticeably brief story, and a handful of pages in this issue are occupied by the latest installment in the latest adventure of Secret Squirrel, another Hanna-Barbera property. Rather than a funny animal akin to Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse, Secret Squirrel is presented as an actual squirrel. Sure, it’s ridiculous, but one might also consider it the ultimate in undercover activity – hiding in plain sight.

I regard this issue as something of a placeholder, with no real advancement of the story to speak of. While the secret origin of Daphne Blake and how she became such a bad ass (very far removed form her Saturday morning roots) might be of interest to some, I was for the most part unimpressed.

I really have to question how long this drawn out apocalypse will last. At some point it needs to be resolved, either favorably or perhaps become the new normal. In which case, I can see our heroes prowling the badlands, trying to stay one step ahead of the monsters. Much like Ark II (look it up).
