The issue started with Fred looking like he was about to die, jumping ahead of the end of the second issue where the gang was about to get attacked as they board the Mystery Machine. The story goes into flashback mode to explain what happened to Fred but later, he seems okay and back on his feet and nowhere near death again. That was weird. Is Fred near death or was it just a red herring to grab people’s attention? I expect him to turn into a monster in the next issue and be the first casualty, like in any good horror movie. I mean, he did express his undying love for Daphne. How can he survive the next issue?
It seems like Keith Giffen worked on the breakdowns because of the regularity of the six panels per page layout. Howard Porter’s work is good although a more simplified version like Chris Samnee or Doc Shaner would have worked for this series quite well. Porter, while not a Jim Lee clone does render his elements a lot as opposed to the above-mentioned artists. I’m still enjoying this comic.
