The dark forces behind the happenings in Hamilton, the site of the Kent Family Farm, continue to wrap their dark tendrils around Superboy/Jon, while Lois recovers from a horrific injury.

We don't get much insight into Lois' state of mind after her horrific injury last issue, as Clark/Superman, after ensuring she is okay at the hospital, heads back into the battle to rescue Jon/Superboy and the action remains focused on battle the rest of the issue. Jon's young female friend and her grandfather enter the fray as well, revealing themselves to be more hero than villain, even as one pays a heavy price for helping Superman and Superboy. Meanwhile Tomasi and Gleason are neatly tying up all the loose ends behind the strange events and inhabitants of Hamilton, making the move that the Kents are making to Metropolis a perfectly clean break.

Mahnke and Gleason share pencil work on this issue and their styles mesh together well. The villains are strikingly frightening and Superman is powerfully iconic. As has always been the case with these two artists though, the facial expressions are where there talents shine brightest.

I'm still completely enjoying the current Superman renaissance that DC Comics' Rebirth initiative has created. What else is there to say? Read Superman.
