In a tale set before the events of Red Hood and the Outlaws #12, the three have gone undercover in a Russian circus touring the States, and currently in Gotham City. And of course, it draws the attention of one-time circus performer Dick Grayson. It’s a bittersweet reunion between Dick and Jason, as Jason struggles to ask for the help that Dick is all too willing to give – if Jason would only ask.

Needless to say, Dick does lend a hand, which is good because with the KGBeast on the Outlaws’ trail, they’re gonna need all the help they can get. The three have settled into the team they’ve tried to be, and life is good for them. It would be a shame to see all that hard work go to waste.

The story is a pleasant interlude, a done-in-one that offers potential new readers a jumping on point, with a major investment in seeking out the back issues. All you really need to know is here: Red Hood was once a Robin, Artemis is an Amazon, and Bizarro am clone.

Tyler Kirkham’s artwork is a bit sketchier here than I recall. Believe me, it gets the job done with style and panache, but if you’re a fan of heavy black inks, you’re doomed to disappointment. It’s all done (seemingly) with pencils and colors, and that’s not a bad thing. Sometimes, it works very effectively, as it does here. My only concern is that sometimes, readers regard it as a rush job, which is unfair.

Rating: 8/10
