It’s
been a long time coming, as Nightwing picks up where it left off several issues
ago. Dick is dealing blackjack in Roland Desmond’s casino, while kicking the
collective butts of the various gangs in Bludhaven. Interestingly enough,
Desmond is actually helping Nightwing, because they have a common foe – Raptor.
As Dick says often enough in this issue, he doesn’t trust Desmond, but he recognizes his personal code, and is using that in an attempt to safeguard his likely betrayal. Of course, not everyone is comfortable with such an arrangement.
I’m pleased to see the international diversions laid to rest, at least for now. Perhaps DC Editorial was throwing a bone to those who enjoyed Dick Grayson’s brief foray into espionage. I’m hoping that’s a mere blip on the character’s history, like Hudson University. But for those who feel otherwise, the return of Raptor may be enough to appease such fans.
As for supporting players, the Run-Offs, their story is not yet over – though it SHOULD BE. I mean really, how long can Seeley milk the super-villain-wannabes-who-don’t-wannabe-yet-still-act-like-it? If he wants to explore supporting characters, perhaps he should focus on Detective Svoboda. I can’t help but feel its more fertile ground.
