Violet Paige has a will, if not a way. Her cybernetic implant is malfunctioning, effectively sidelining her from any nocturnal activity as Mother Panic, Gotham’s latest crimefighter. But there is a murderer on the loose, and Violet’s sense of obligation to one of his peripheral victims compels her to take extreme measures in his apprehension.

To do this, she enlists the most unlikely of allies, which unbelievably – and I truly mean that – provides her the leads she needs to locate the murderer’s trail. But is the hunter, or the hunted?

I appreciate John Paul Leon’s artwork for its simplicity. He uses an economy of line to convey the details he needs, without a lot of unnecessary detail. It’s refreshing when compared to other artists who sometimes over-work their drawings. It’s unfair to call it rendering or4 design; it’s merely the most basic of drawing talent paired with patience. Leon’s work is the exact opposite; less becomes more.

Meanwhile, in our back-up feature yet another bat-themed vigilante arrives on the scene, but for how long? Gotham Radio may be close to unmasking the Dark Knight. I’m really enjoying the return of a back-up feature to comic books. More writers should be challenged to write in this compressed format, and compelled to deliver in a handful of pages what they may be accustomed to delivering in an entire comic.

I hope thought balloons aren’t far behind.
