Johnny Bullet - in French?

As ComicBookBin is about to launch its Sunday Comics feature, featuring Leroy Douresseau’s Grumble and my own Johnny Bullet, it occurred to me that I had forgotten something important. I had forgotten to make Johnny Bullet available in French! In the past, many have suggested that ComicBookBin should have material in French. I’m a French Canadian and obviously, a lover of the French language and pretty protective about it. But I never mixed the two here. There are few ComicBookBin articles in French. We do have a few interviews that were done in French like the one with cartoonist Lewis Trondheim. He probably wouldn’t have accepted to do it in English.

ComicBookBin has covered French-language comics extensively. Many of the comics we review in the European section were the French-language versions. Not translations. I always thought that I would confuse people if we had French language articles here. I don’t think that people idiots. Offering Johnny Bullet in two languages means double the readership. I’m a Francophone, not a translator.

Ça veut dire que les textes de Johnny Bullet en français ne seront pas des traductions mots à mots mais vraiment comment j’aurais écris le texte en français. Et il est certain que plusieurs des bandes dessinées futures seront écrites en français en premier et ensuite traduite. Question d’espace, ça fait beaucoup plus de sens! Ça me donne un meilleur contrôle sur les phylactères. Je crois que cela sera plus facile aussi de traduire du français vers l’anglais. Le français sera moins mécanique et plus fluide. Je n’ai pas cette inquiétude avec l’anglais.

J’ai fais une brève recherche sur des sites de BD en ligne en français mais je n’ai pas trouvé de portail. Alors pourquoi ne pas laisser Johnny Bullet au bercail dans les deux langues? Les bandes dessinées seront prêtes presque en même temps. J’ai déjà effectué les traductions sur tout le matériel que j’ai à ce jour. J’espère que le public français sera aussi friand de Johnny Bullet que le public anglophone.
