Kyle Rayner gets new powers and a new code-name while still maintaining links to the Green Lantern Corps. The story opens with Kyle being pursued by inter-stellar bounty-hunters--- umm, isn't that the same plotline they are running in GREEN LANTERN? Isn't there anyone at DC checking to make sure they aren't doing the same story in different books? Marz also shows that Kyle hasn't given up his civilian identity yet and this sets up some interesting sub-plots in an artists' commune. This story is entertaining but it is also a bit hard to follow with the narrative jumping backwards and forwards in time. It often isn't clear if we are seeing a flashback or a flash-forward. The art has a strange Gene Colan-influence, making it a rather dramatic depature from the standard space-opera style. It was said that Colan had no imitators because no one else could capture his style correctly. So this Tocchini guy is taking a heck of a risk. The art in this issue is still a bit rough around the edges but shows some promise of evolving into something special.
