The Hollywood Reporter released news about a newly announced Superman and Batman double feature film for 2015 set in the continuity of The Man of Steel which will directed by the latter’s film’s Zack Snyder based on a plot by David Goyer and produced by The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan. Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman, but who will play Batman remains a mystery. Christian Bale, the actor who played Batman in the latest three Batman films was thought to have retired from the role after the last film The Dark Knight Rises.

The film will invariably serve as the stepping stone to a new Justice League film by focusing on what comic book fans know as the World’s Finest instead of trying to explain the entire League. How Superman plays against Batman has been explored in many comics in the past and one successful animated story over a decade ago. If the film is as well-thought off as these preceding interactions between Superman and Batman, Warner Brothers may have finally found the right formula to take on Disney and Marvel at the super hero box office.
