This issue launches a new story arc, as Jessica and Simon both struggle to improve their civilian situations. But a challenging situation has a habit of going from bad to worst, usually when it’s the most inconvenient. And it’s just as Jessica has shoved aside her anxiety that she is needed to deal with Bolphunga, an intergalactic mercenary.

Yet Bolphunga’s challenge to her – or to any Green Lantern – somehow rings hollow. Could it be there is a deeper secret behind his arrival on Earth? And could there yet be a deeper secret behind that? Oooh, yes, a lot layers to this onion.

Meanwhile, matters aren’t going so well for Simon’s recent ally, the Ungaran commander who helped rescue the Molites when their star went ka-boom. She’s got a mystery of her own on her hands, but that’s a story for another day (another issue, anyway).

Returning artists Barberi and Santorelli bring a fresh and oh-so-effective look to our favorite space cops. Because that’s what Simon and Jessica are. They’re cops, unlike Hal Jordan who is more of a super-hero. Which is not to diminish Simon and Jessica, but that distinction affects how the series is written, and why it’s significantly different from other entries in the Green Lantern franchise.
