The
latest story arc concludes as Simon, Jessica and the original Green Lanterns
battle Volthoom. But for building a cohesive team to be reckoned with, the one
thing Simon and Jessica failed to consider is the agenda of the Guardians.
(Yeah, leave it to management to derail a perfectly good plan with its own
uninformed agenda).
Perhaps the
entire story is best enjoyed in a single sitting. It’s hard to say, six issues
after it began. But this issue is a very satisfying conclusion. My only regret
is that perhaps with some judicious editing, the story could have been told in
fewer pages, for a tighter narrative.
But this is merely symptomatic of my usual gripe with comic books these days. Almost all stories are structured in a six-chapter format, for the benefit of the eventual trade paperback, with a price point of $19.95. I consider this the tail wagging the dog. Just tell me a good story, regardless of issue count. Let the trade be slightly thinner or thicker, or give me two stories, in 3/3 or 4/2 issue count.
