Launching a new story arc, Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis resume their roles as Batman and Co. Terry has come into his own as Gotham’s latest Dark Knight, while Bruce has adapted to the role once filled by Alfred – feeding intel and keeping the coffee hot.

But this issue offers no small amount of foreshadowing, though it does keep a few surprises. One bit of business seems overly telegraphed, but with no final pay-off (yet). Meanwhile, another off-hand comment suggests a new crisis to challenge the Bat-team.

In all, it seems a bit of misdirection, and that’s okay. I want to a story to zig when I expect it to zag, so long as it doesn’t zig off the rails. There is also another bit of dialogue that may or may not go as I anticipate. Future issues will tell, and if it happens, I’ll remind you of this one question: Has Terry’s girlfriend become Gotham’s vigilante?

Phil Hester and Ande Parks are on art chores this issue, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve enjoyed their work since Green Arrow more than a decade ago, and I have seen too little of them since then. If this is their new steady gig, great. They deserve a high-profile title from DC. If not this, perhaps Nightwing.
