Bruce Wayne is back, but not as Batman. That title still belongs to his young protégé, Terry McGuiness. But does Terry still want it? In a chat with his one-time girlfriend Dana, he voices concerns over the toll being Batman has taken on him. Lying to his loved ones, missing the opportunity to live a “normal” life. If she comes back into his life, is it possible he could put his Batman identity on the back burner? Even he isn’t sure.

Meanwhile, the League of Assassins has invaded Gotham once again, this time in pursuit of Curare. I wish I could offer some background info on her, but I’m unfamiliar with her backstory. But like Talia Al Ghul, she seems to be a blend of friend and foe. And it appears her return to Gotham is going to conflict with Terry’s decision-making in a major way.

What will future issues bring? That remains to be seen. This issue has planted some seeds of impending doom for Terry and his support team. Though Bruce seems critical of his allowing them access to the Batcave, that seems hypocritical for a man with four sidekicks, a butler, and a handful of other bat-themed associates.

Chang’s artwork is getting better with each passing issue. Not that it was bad before, by any means, but it seems as if he’s is settling in comfortably with the characters and setting. And Jurgen’s is writing some insightful dialogue, with natural tone that we don’t see enough of in modern comics.
