It’s part two of the old Jokes versus riddle storyline and the war between the Joker and the Riddler appears to have intensified. Can a young Batman stop the madness in Gotham City?

Tom King can be an acquired tasted. While in one issue, he’ll write the most fantastic story and take his time doing it, his preference for telegraphing a story cerebrally can often cheat readers of a good caper. All we get this issue are hints of stuff happening with random killings and nothing else. But there is no real development of the plot or anything substantial to latch on. Towards the end of the story, he caps it off with a two page spread visually summarizing the conflict between the two villains. That’s not enough and felt like a cheat. Where was the development?

Now, we know that this story has something to do with Catwoman who was not part of that war. It seems strange in hindsight as she would have been a local Gothamite and probably caught in the crossfire. I’m hoping that there will be some payoff there.

Mikel janín’s strength is his ability to draw so many different faces and keep them consistent. He’s the right pick for this story and I hope to see more of his work in the future.
