For
fans of Booster Gold, this issue is a genuine treat, and writer Dan Jurgens
features his own original creation, Booster Gold, the time-traveling athlete
from the future. To many, he’s a bit of an egotistical jerk, but he’s also a
force to be reckoned with, as he ably proves in this issue.
But what has me flummoxed since last issue is the star of the book, Superman. He used the Flash’s cosmic treadmill to journey back in time to Krypton before it’s destruction. Of course, the treadmill was left in the present, which begs the question: How will Superman get back? With Krypton’s red sun, he’ll have no super-powers, a thought which fails to occur to him until the final page of this issue.
Duh.
Nevertheless, the issue is a fun read, beginning with the cover. Word balloons on the covers are seldom seen these days. It’s more like a re-hash of a Silver Age cover, which I don’t mind in the least.
The story is fun and exciting, as Booster mounts a rescue mission to prevent Superman from changing time any more than it has been. And while Booster and the Flash are both experienced time-traveller, it’s clear they have differing views on the ramifications of stepping into the past.
