I'm heading to SPACE Con, so there will NOT be a One Shot column this week. However...

Is it madness? Is it?! It seemed like madness. I thought about it and thought about it. It seemed like too much. But the girlfriend convinced me that it was for the good of nerd-kind...

May 5th will be a grand day for "Marvel Zombies." On that day, Marvel's The Avengers drops into your local cinematheque, tying together several years of ambitious movie-making in (what can only be described as) one gloriously messy cinematic nerdgasm.

Admittedly, I am a Marvel Zombie. I can also clumsily admit that I tend to write things. Particularly, comics and movie reviews. It only makes sense that I critique my @$$ off in honor of such an occasion.

My local corporate-run, mega theater has been kind enough to show Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America on May 4th (2008's Incredible Hulk is suspiciously absent though). This is the closest my city will come to Hollywood red carpet treatment and I intend to be there to review each film for ComicBookBin.com as it happens. Naturally, this "Marvel Movie Marathon" has been timed to lead into a midnight screening of Marvel's/Joss Whedon's The Avengers at 12:01 AM on May 5th.

Comic Book Bin has been kind enough to give me the go-ahead and I am more than eager to get started. I've already formulated a plan that involves typing as the film goes (but I'll be sitting in the back of the theater so I don't disturb the other nerds in attendance). It helps that I have seen and reviewed each film in the past, but I'll reserve any actual writing or posting until I'm in-between films (thank God for smartphones).

By doing this, is my nerd showing? With this "Review Marathon," am I reaching a new level of fanboy obsession usually reserved for Trekkies, people who speak elvish, and the 501st Legion? Maybe. In my defense, I need to be excited about fiction. It triggers inspiration to create. It makes me want to imbue that exact same feeling within other people through my work. For that reason, it is important (if it's good.) Outside of that...it's probably going to be really f@$%ing sweet.

Stay tuned...
