Aquaman was declared dead but he lives. Hidden in the deepest and poorest part of Atlantis, Aquaman helps the downtrodden against the new royal thugs that chase after Atlanteans who look different than others and any magical artefact. But the legend of Aquaman lives and King Rath will surely want to end its threat to the legitimacy of his own kingdom.

It’s amazing that Dan Abnett was able to transition storylines so easily. It feels like a new comic and a total reboot of the old series but really it’s the same. The characters’ characterization is the same. They continue to be as well-developed. I can even sense some sneaky plotting from Urcell, Rath’s consort.

Of course, the best part of this comic is the art by Stepan Sejic. It seems that DC Comics really wants Aquaman to shine, now that he will become a popular movie hero. The publisher is putting its best talent behind this series and willing to reduce its publication from twice a month to one so that it can have solid work for this series. I do hope that Abnett’s script will be strong enough to create a memorable Aquaman run similar to Greg Rucka’s Wonder Woman.
