The Phoenix Rising
Moonstone is releasing a new comic book series called The Phoenix Rising #0. Paul Kupperberg writes the 16 pages black and white comic book. David Bryant is the artist. In Phoenix Rising, an old alien wakes up after a long sleep. The mysterious Renaissance Group chases him around the world as he tries to find his lost companion. The comic book will be available in October 2014.
Halloween Man vs. the Invisible Man
The entire collection of Halloween Man vs. the Invisible Man is available on ComiXology for $1.99. That’s 106 pages of comics pitting local town hero Halloween Man versus serial killer Invisible Man.
Bill Watterson Comeback?
Pearl Before Swine's Stephan Pastis announced his brief collaboration with Calvin and Hobbes's creator. Bill Watterson has not published any public comic strip since he retired from Calvin and Hobbes in 1995. Watterson is reclusive and reluctant to let his work adapted to other media. Yet, he drew three Pearl Before Swine comic strips for Pastis on behalf of a charity.
Super hero fans with interests in gay comics, creator Hirojo has something for you. He released the first nine pages of his new Web comic YForce this weekend. The comic will appeal to fans of The Young Protectors but with more overt sexual innuendo. In fact, the costume designs of his characters are rather camp and flamboyant. Although the drawings by colleague “Doubleleaf” are good, they still look stiff and not dynamic. The main character seen so far looks a lot like DC Comics' Nightwing. I have two comments for Hirojo. First, stop revealing everything about the story in support pages on your Website. Let viewers discover the material on their own. Second, don’t be squeamish about other people borrowing your artwork. How can the media promote your Web comic if you won’t allow them to reproduce anything for fear of copyrights trespasses? If you don’t want anyone copying your work, do not publish a Web comic.
P.S. Serious comic book media service have no interests in copyrights violations. Fair dealing reproductions allow us to discuss works with the public.
