In the wake of AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED, a mysterious new group of teen super heroes appears. But who are they? Where did they come from? And what right do they have to call themselves THE YOUNG AVENGERS?
A lot of cats are jazzed that the writer of The OC is writing this book, but I was a little apprehensive. Not a fan of the show, as to me the writing is convoluted and whiney. At times, it did seem that this had permeated to this book. Some of the Jonah, Kat and Jessica conversation seemed off, as in regards to how the characters usually are. And the Cathedral incident, especially the girl made me cringe. However, the initial concept of the book was intriguing and Heinberg has definitely set something very interesting in motion, with a real good cliff-hanger. So there is promise here and, y’know, if you’re a fan of The OC and all that, this should be a GO for you.
Jim Cheung has been impressing me ever since I came across his CrossGen work and he really has lost a step. The art really was the consistent factor of this jump-off issue. It’s nice to see a differentiation in female characters and them be more than candy floss on the page. The action is handled welled and so are the power effects. So a shout has to go out to Justin Ponsor for another outstanding job with the colours (the armour looks great).
