X-Men #176
The X-Men’s team-up with Black Panther continues! With the X-Men captured, Storm and Black Panther are going to have to put their differences aside and work together before all of Africa is overrun with mutated monstrosities!

Milligan’s first instalment of this crossover was rather shaky, but he definitely improves with this issue. There’s some amusing moments with the interplay between the monkey’s which helps with grabbing the reader. The problem though, is the fact that the X-Men have the feel of a group that hasn’t worked together much at all and never been in big situations. And the stuff with the scientist and new bad guy feels kinda sterile.

Larroca has stepped his game up from last issue, somewhat. The movements of the action are smooth and he manages to keep the dangerous, edgy look of the Dora Milajae. On the downside though, character emotion seems to be lacking from a visual view point. And each panel seems somewhat flat. The images don’t jump out at you or breathe with life at all.

Report Card - C

Koncise an out :)
