ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1
"MORE THAN YOU BARGAINED FOR"
Spidey goes toe-to-toe with some old foes – and winds up with a new girlfriend! Who is she? Let’s just say she has a familiar face. How did this happen? Well, one way to find out—and here it is! This is a story that will have long-lasting ramifications, not only for our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler, but for… well, THAT would be telling!
You gotta love it when
Bendis’ game is this tight! All the build up for the issue was
Pete’s knew girlfriend (cover kinda gives it away, huh lol). I was hoping from way back when shorty was flirting with him, that this would happen, but wasn’t sure they’d go there. But y’know, this is what makes the
Ultimateverse so compelling.
Bendis kills
Beast and now does this, what a great look. The issue doesn’t jus sit on this though, if you liked “
Confessions” (issue #13) then you’ll dig this, as it has the same feeling and emotional impact. From the narration at the beginning, to the whole conversation, it had that quirky innocence (if you know what I mean). And the ending, that was a perfect way to finish :)
Ultimate Spider-man, drawn by someone else other than
Mark Bagley……..is that possible…..can it even work!!! Well, it’s strange not seeing
Bagley’s distinctive, now familiar style, but
Mark Brooks does his thing, kid! His style is different, without being too much of a variation.
Brooks really has a finesse for capturing action (he even draws a mean Dragon), you really feel the energy. But he also knows how to impart the emotion a character is feeling, on the reader. From the phone call to the roof top exchange, you really are sucked into the emotional interactions. The awkwardness, uncertainty, hopefulness and warmth, its all there. And you gotta love that kiss shot :)
Brooks definitely held it down!
