ULTIMATES #3: "Gods & Monsters" pt. 3 (of 5)

The Trial of The Incredible Hulk! Is it all over for the scared scientist who harbours a monster within him? Guest-starring Matt Murdock!

This was a pretty bittersweet issue. It’s the trial of The Hulk, which boils down to the trial of Bruce Banner. In a situation like this, we get to see if justice or retribution prevails. Millar does a real good job creating an appropriate tone, one of disheartenment and dejection. He also sets up an interesting conclusion that could have repercussions that send ripples throughout the Ultimate Universe.

The first page shot of the outside of the Court House is nice, but the trial panels and the ones inside Stark’s mansion are standard fair. Hitch then steps up hard though, the whole sequence between Bruce and Betsy is fantastic. The emotion that is conveyed really hits a cord and makes it that much realer. Actually, all the Banner scenes look great this issue and seem the heart of the story. The covers good, but isn’t Hulk bigger!?!
