Ultimate X-Men #51

It's all about the Ragin' Cajun as the mysterious Gambit gives hints of where he's been, what he wants and why the X-Men will not be happy about it.

This story looks to be developing into what seems like quite an interesting adventure. The abduction of Rogue makes you assume one thing. When we discover the real reason, it seems like a bit of an anti climax. Then Vaughan hits us with the BIG hook. Now it's probably been seen in the Marvel Proper, but this is the Ultimate Universe and everything seems fresh and edgier here. Vaughan also does a really good job of delving into another side of the characters. And is that everyone's favourite Silver mercenary with the twins!?!

Kubert's opening shot of Gambit is perfect and add the great job the colourist does: this opening page really sets the bar. Then when we see Wolverine, what can you say: we even get the adamantium skull. The Rogue action really helps show the character as strong & independent. And the Von Strucker twins really come off as eerie. Where this issue really stands out though, is the colouring. The tone is set and adds for a sense of tension and suspense.
