ULTIMATE X-MEN #53: CRY WOLF" pt. 4 (of 4)
When the X-Men arrive at the Empire State Building to take down the Fenris folks, it leads to a big rematch between Gambit and Wolverine! Plus, what decision does Rogue make that will affect her budding relationship with Bobby Drake, Iceman? Don't miss it.
This is a hard to place issue. It was far from horrible, but then it wasn't a classic. There were some good moments and Vaughan for the most part, has the characters voices down. At points the dialogue did get a little whinny (go watch The OC to see what I mean), but the issue did wrap up the arc kinda nicely. With the fallout from this issue, things could get interesting. We have the most obvious situation, but even that has ramifications on the new team dynamic.
This is another solid issue from Kubert and coupled with Ponsor's colouring, the moody atmosphere really jumps out at you. The fight with Fenris Twins looks real good, but it's the scenes outside in the rain that grab you the most. The last page shot really sums things up too, with the dejection and feeling of failure. We also have a great cover, with colouring that reminds you of an oil painting.
