Stomwatch: Team Achilles #16

A Michael Golden cover is reason enough to buy almost any comic (remember all those JURASSIC PARK covers he did for Topps Comics), but in the case of STORMWATCH: TEAM ACHILLES, the reader gets a nice cover and very entertaining comic book. S: TA is the re-launch of one of the original Image/Wildstorm titles. The original series is only memorable as the place Warren Ellis started redefining American superhero comics.
S: TA writer Micah Ian Wright is blessed with a number of traits absent from the arsenal of almost all mainstream comic book writers. A few are witty. Some have a firm grasp of satire. Very few really know parody. Many can create engaging characters. Almost none understand farce. Wright embodies the writer that has it all, and he shows it in what is ostensibly an superhero/Tom Clancy comic.
Penciller C.P. Smith loves posing his characters' figures, and he seems to have the best understanding of drawing human anatomy since Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. Even if he didn't have the assistance of a very good colorist (Tony Aviña), he'd still wow us. GRADE B+
