Underworld Evolution
Underworld Evolution is the follow up to the war between aristocratic vampires, known as the Death Dealers and the subservient Werewolves that have evolved from one common ancestor and two feuding brothers. After having slaying the vampire elder, Selene, played by Beckinsale is on the run with Michael, the werewolf-vampire hybrid. The newly awakened Marcus, the first-ever vampire’s has plans of his own, for the pair, which include using the fugitives to find his lost brother, the first werewolf.
Having not seen the first movie, this sequel was very confusing at first. The brief recap of the previous film was done but in flash backs without words. This movie was fun as it created an entire mythology on vampires and werewolf using modern science instead of religion to explain both of their origins. The plot was quite simple and one knew from the start where it would lead. There really were no surprise twists.
The cinematography was fine, for a special effects-laden film but not the best. The werewolves didn’t look like they touched the ground when they were running which was not a good thing. It seemed like the characters were mixed with elements from a video game. As for Selene’s stunts, it’s as if I was watching Trinity from the Matrix. After a while this type of kung fu cable action fighting looks boring.
