Ghouls look like humans, and they live among us. Ghouls crave human flesh. The Commission of Counter Ghouls (CCG) is the only organization in the world fighting and exterminating Ghouls and investigating Ghoul-related crimes. Haise Sasaki is in charge on an unruly CCG squad, “Quinx Squad” (or “Qs Squad”), but his forgotten past hides dark secrets.
As Tokyo Ghoul: re, Vol. 5 (Chapters 42 to 52) opens, a powerful Ghoul named Shu Tsukiyama is determined to make Sasaki remember his past as Ken Kaneki. Meanwhile, the CCG prepares to make a move to exterminate the ghouls of the Rosewald Family Faction, which includes Shu's father, Mirumo Tsukiyama. Now, Mirumo is ready to sacrifice himself to save Shu and the family line, but Shu and Haise are headed for a confrontation that will change everyone's plans.
THE LOWDOWN: The Tokyo Ghoul: re manga stands on its own, although it is the sequel to the previous series, Tokyo Ghoul. Both series are the creations of Sui Ishida, who gives each series its own tone, unique from the other series, with the second series focusing on the humans... and others who seek to eradicate Ghouls.
Tokyo Ghoul: re Graphic Novel Volume 5 offers some of the second series' best CCG vs. Ghoul battles. The CCG really hates them some Ghouls; it's almost like racism. This is also a turning point volume, one that rewards long-time readers. I know that I am excited to see where this narrative is going.
