TOE TAGS FEATURING GEORGE ROMERO # 6

Despite the presence of a big-name director on this book, DC Comics hasn't been publicizing it too much. Perhaps they are a little disappointed in the outcome. This is the final part in a story that expands on Romero's "zombie" saga, revealing concepts he never got to put into his films. This time, the zombies have developed a rudimentary intelligence and have become an all-conquering army. However the humans appear to have gotten even dumber and do little to stop the zombie onslaught and some more concerned with plotting against each other. Romero seems to have trouble with pacing and with creating interesting characters. Even the protagonist, a half-zombie named Damien isn't well-fleshed out (and not because he's decomposing either.) The art also has a cluttered, rushed look to it which makes it hard to tell the zombies from the humans. In fact, it is hard to say if the creators have any sympathies for the humans in this tale. Like the creatures in his movies, Romero's tales seem gradually to lose their humanity.
