This tale is played mostly for laughs as Robin proves to be a lout at love, being more concerned with playing videogames than romancing Starfire. Our couple also have a silly supervillain called the Puppet-King to deal with, not to mention the two buttinskies, Cyborg and Beast Boy who make things worse. It is touching to see young teenagers so hesitant about love, especially in this era when 13-year-olds boast about losing their virginity. The bad guy's plot actually works well within the wider story and the laughs fit into the plot rather than coming out of nowhere. Starfire's sappy remarks are particularly hilarious. She is quite a change from the hard-nailed warrior of the mainstream "Teen Titans" comic. The art will raise eyebrows-- both for good and bad. Instead of trying to imitate the "manga" style, McCrea seems to be doing a parody of it and throwing in Western cartoonish aspects as well. It is a good change of pace and hopefully is a sign that this title will not be restricted to following one art style. Bullock's cover however seems to go too far in being a parody.
