Batman and Superman find themselves under attack from a variety of old acquaintances including the Martian Manhunter, Titano, the Parasite and Dr. Phosphorus. Yes, some of those characters are dead now but that is all part of the wider mystery. After all the reality-jumping that we saw in the previous months of this title, it is disappointing to see that DC is still resorting to the "throw-anything-we-can" type of story to shock and befuddle the reader. Hopefully, we will get something that will be easier to follow in the later issues of this storyline. Batman again is depicted as being a borderline, paranoid, psycho-- apparently DC still hasn't figured out how to do a kinder, gentler Batman yet. Still, the two heroes work well together and the fights with the villain(s) are entertaining. Van Sciver's art is finely-detailed and dynamic. As usual, he plays up the grotesque aspects of his subjects but that suits the story here very well.
