DreamWorks Animation S.K.G. Presents Starring: (voices) Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Ruper Everett, Justin Timberlake, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, John Krasinski, and Ian McShane Opening date: Friday, May 18, 2007 Shrek the Third is the second sequel to the 2001 Oscar-winning, smash hit, Shrek, and all the beloved characters have returned. Shrek the Third is also the follow up to the Oscar-nominated Shrek 2, which set the record for the largest five day opening in box office history back in 2004 and became, at the time, the third highest grossing movie in worldwide box office history.
When Shrek (Mike Myers) married Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), he never realized that one day he might become the next King of Far, Far Away, so when his father-in-law, King Harold (John Cleese), suddenly croaks, Shrek is facing the possibility of being the new king. Being king isn’t a good fit for the ornery ogre, who isn’t one to give up his swamp. But unless he and his friends, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) can find a suitable King, the lovable ogre will be royally screwed and stuck with the job for the rest of his life. If he didn’t have enough troubles, Princess Fiona also announces that she is expecting their first child. Shrek’s most promising candidate for heir to the throne is Fiona’s long-lost cousin, Artie (Justin Timberlake), an underachieving medieval high school slacker. Making the rebellious Artie take the job proves to be a bigger challenge than the trio imagined.
Meanwhile, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), Shrek’s old nemesis, has once again reared his handsome head, and he’s looking for redemption. Fiona gathers a band of royal girlfriends to stop Prince Charming from overthrowing the country and becoming King of Far, Far Away. It’s going to take a giant effort for Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots and a whole lot of help from Fiona and her band of princesses to make everything “happily ever after.” Visit the film site at shrekthethird.com For movie reviews, visit http://www.negromancer.com.
