ULTIMATE X-MEN #48: THE TEMPEST
Xavier wants to find the mysterious killer, but he also understands Fury's concerns. How do you find someone who can't be seen or detected though?
Vaughan is really putting together an interesting, well crafted story here. The hunt for Sinister is on and the older X-Men split into groups of two so they can widen their search scope. This leads to some interesting interaction between the characters that helps define where they currently are within themselves. We meet a new Ultimate incarnation and the way the issue ends leaves you anticipating the next issue. Vaughan gives us some retrospective view points that make you think.
Patterson has definitely found his affinity to these characters now. Where as earlier, Nightcrawler looked a little disjointed: now he seems perfect within his movements and stances. There are some fantastic images of Storm, where we can see her inner struggle and anger reflected in her features and postures. And Iceman & Colossus are impressively brought to life in their respective ice and metal forms. This has to be credited to some really good colouring as well though. The cover is something completely different, so draws you in.
