Rated “M” for “Mature”

Orphan Mirai Kakehashi is tired of life and attempts suicide by jumping from the roof of a building.  Instead of dying, Mirai is saved by an angel named Nasse.  Through her, Mirai learns that 13 humans have been chosen as candidates to replace God.  Each has a guardian angel, and Nasse is Mirai's, but one candidate is hunting the rest.

As Platinum End, Vol. 2 (Chapters 4 to 6) opens, a “Red Arrow” of love pierces Mirai's heart.  The culprit is Saki Hanakago, who also happens to be a God-candidate and the girl Mirai loves.  The two join forces to intercept Metropoliman, a superhero whom they are sure is a candidate to be God.  In fact, Metropoliman sends out a message to the other candidates for a meeting, but is this coming together of candidates really a trap?

THE LOWDOWN:  The Platinum End manga is from the mangaka team of writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata.  This team created the controversial Death Note manga and the manga industry insider manga, Bakuman。.   I have high hopes for Platinum End.

Platinum End Volume 2 suggests that this series will be full of surprises, and it also has that edgy, eccentric vibe that other Ohba-Obata manga have.  Obata's work here continues to justify his nickname, “the god of drawing,” and I will say again, Platinum End is going to be a helluva manga.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Readers looking for good comic books will want to read Ohba and Obata's latest Shonen Jump title, Platinum End.
