The third in his Owly series of all-ages graphic novels, Andy Runton’s OWLY: FLYING LESSONS sees the titular character learn more lessons in friendship, but also overcome an obstacle that cost him his confidence going back to his childhood. Not only must he conquer fear, but Owly must help a new friend, a flying squirrel, overcome his natural fear of owls to trust Owly.

Runton is a natural storyteller and his art is expressive and simple, and like the best cartoonists he can construct characters, define emotions and feelings, and indicate plot using only illustrations, symbols, and expressions – not a thought or speech balloon to be seen. Runton had created a series tailor made to absorb the minds of young readers, but his stories are so charming that adults will want to be down for the fun, also.
