We're
back for yet another week of video game news here at News Pop!. Last
week ended off with quite a bit of a bang, as many retailers were
guaranteeing a certain amount of stock of Wiis on Saturday morning.
That stock would not last very long, though, as there were lineups
found at every store that had the systems. Those numbers were
considerably higher than the actual stock available in most stores.
Many retailers are still getting daily calls from people trying to
get their hands on the system. As for the other consoles, Xbox 360 is
selling at a normal pace at most stores, though that may start to
slow as more people wait to see what will come in the new Spring
bundle which should be available some time between March and April.
Playstation 3, on the other hand, is not having the same kind of
luck. Our local retailers have not received shipments of the system
in quite some time, and the stock that does come into the stores have
all been returns. The number of Playstation 3s sitting on store
shelves varies by what that particular retail was originally selling
(for instance, Best Buy carried a bigger stock than Toys'R'us), but
one local store has had a 60GB model (return) sitting on its shelf
for a couple of days or so, only to be joined by another returned
60GB model today. We haven't had any feedback from people as to why
they have been returning their systems, and we would like to know,
but until we start hearing their reasons all we can do is make
assumptions, and we'd prefer not to. Here are the rest of today's
headlines.

This
week's newest Virtual Console games
This
week's Virtual Console update is a little spare. The only game added
to the list was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The game was
originally released for Super Nintendo in 1992 and is available for
download for 800 Wii Points. This game comes highly recommended by
our own Mike “Sock” as “one of the best Legend of Zelda games
ever.”

more in game ads
In-Game
advertising provider, Double Fusion, and online game publisher, K2
Network, have teamed up to offer sponsorships and dynamic in-game
advertising
placements for K2's
newest PC game, War Rock. The deal is a
worldwide
exclusive, multi-year partnership which will place dynamic 2D and 3D
ads into the tactical first person shooter, as well as opportunities
for marketers to sponsor tournaments, maps and in-game assets. The
game is part of K2’s Free2Play gaming family, which means that it
is free and open to all. It is also currently in open Beta, available
at CNET and FilePlanet.com. What kind of advertising players will see
while in the game remains to be seen, but we can only hope it fits
nicely.
